Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gay Men has reissued its support guides, “How Do I Tell My Parents?” and “A Guide For Families and Friends”.
First published in the early 70s, the original booklets were written by FFLAG founder Rose Robinson (1916-2011). The new guides have been brought up to date by parents of lesbian, gay and bisexual sons and daughters, and are available as hard copy or to download at www.fflag.org.uk.
The booklets, which are written in a clear, informative and reassuring style, cover topics including language, the impact of religion, supporting your child and finding support for yourself, and contain a useful glossary. There is also information and resources for parents whose child is coming out as transsexual.
FFLAG is a national organisation of parents of LGB sons and daughters. Besides the booklets, FFLAG offers support, advice and information on a confidential helpline/email answering service. Calls are answered by parent volunteers who have themselves got a gay son or daughter. There are also parents’ support groups across the UK.
